Dog Law Awareness Event – Ipswich – 15th September 2012

Ipswich officers are holding a dog law awareness event to offer information on the current legislation and guidance for dealing with dog related problems.

The event will take place on Saturday 15th September in Holywells Park from 9am to 1pm. Officers from Ipswich South East Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will be present along with Ipswich Borough Council Park Rangers, local councillors and dog behaviourist Candy Rogers from Leading by Instinct.

On the day officers will be giving advice on the current laws and legislation, banned dogs in the UK, the Countryside Code, how to report dog fouling and associated penalties/ fines.

PCSO Jayne McCusker from Ipswich South East SNT said, “Our priority is the safety of the public, children, dog walkers and their dogs. Public areas such as parks are for everyone’s enjoyment so if your dog does not socialise well with other dogs or people, whereby the safety of the public is compromised, it is essential for correct measures be taken to prevent injury to people or animals.

“We advise all dog owners to remain responsible and consider their animal’s temperament, behaviour and breed characteristics to ascertain whether it is necessary to implement the use of muzzles and leads.”

This day follows on from the success of the ‘Paws on Patrol’ initiative, launched back in May, whereby members of the public are encouraged to report crimes, anti-social behaviour and suspicious behaviour during their routine dog walks.

For more information about the upcoming event or details of the Paws on Patrol initiative please contact Ipswich South East SNT on 101 or by emailing: pawsonpatrol@suffolk.pnn.police.uk
