If you are looking for a top dog event to visit where you can take your dog , look, listen or take part, then the Essex Dog Day is perfect for you and your canine pal.
This super doggie show is a new and exciting event that is a must for the public, enthusiasts and trade exhibitors alike. The show will be held on the 28th August in the spacious grounds of Crix, a beautiful Georgian house, located alongside the A12 in Hatfield Peverel near Chelmsford.
Gates open from 10am until 5pm and the show promises to be a feast of all things doggie. Jimmy Doherty of Jimmy’s Farm fame will be opening the event and celebrity television commentator Peter Purves who for 28 years has commentated on Crufts, the world’s biggest dog show will be will be keeping everyone informed of the shows activities throughout the day.
Chairman of the fundraising committee, Sarah Courage DL, former High Sheriff of Essex, has invited Roy and Carol Dyer of the renowned Essex Dog Display Team to take on a voluntary role as consultants, along with their daughter Tiffany who is the production manager for the event. They will bring over 30 years event organising and canine experience to the show. The Dyers were the organisers of the original and hugely successful All About Dogs event held in Bentwood for many years until 2008.
All profits raised at Essex Dog Day are going to PARC (Essex) a charity in Braintree for children and young adults in Essex with additional needs and their families.
Sarah Courage said, “We are making the show as varied and exciting as we can, it will be really great fun for both dogs and owners.”
There will be 17 classes in the companion show with rosettes and lots of prizes on offer for the family pet
to compete for, so if your dog has a posh pedigree or is a sweet little mongrel with a ‘waggie’ tail they could be a winner in one of the many fun classes. Our commentator for the companion show ring will be Paul Kelly for Kellys Turkeys to keep you fully informed of the classes, prizes and winners.
There is a ‘Meet the Breeds’ section with 20 dog breed stands who are coming from throughout England and will be there to share their expert advice, totally free of charge and show you their many different dogs from puppies to adults. Trade exhibitors will be in abundance to cater for all your doggie needs. There will be plenty of displays and demonstrations in the main arena which will include the spectacular Essex Dog Display Team along with Crufts winner Richard Curtis with K9 Dancing Dogs, working Sheep Dog Displays, Huskies in Harness and Lurchers in action to name but a few.
If you have a dog that likes retrieving then the gun dog scurry is not to be missed or you could take your dog around the starters or advanced have-a- go agility course. There will also be an opportunity for you to try flyball on the have-a- go section
Both admission and trade prices have been kept at a very realistic level and a family of four can enter the showground for just £16, there is also ample free car parking in the huge surrounding parkland.
Several judges will be in place to cast their eye over the competing dogs with Lord Petre, The Lord Lieutenant of Essex, choosing the dog he would most like to take home. Could your dog be best in show? Why not enter, you might just go home with the top prize!
Children are particularly welcome to attend and as well as the dogs they can enjoy a whole host of entertainment, including fairground roundabouts, donkey rides and face painting. There will be refreshment marquees, food units and ice cream vendors and we can guarantee you will enjoy the feast of entertainment that will make this a great family day out if you are a dog owner or not.
